The delivery time of certificates ordered online is 2 working days from the reception of the order. Orders received through Registers Iceland’s service centre are processed up to 6 working days after they are received. Weekends and holidays are not considered working days. If a certificate is to be mailed, Iceland Post’s delivery must be added to the delivery time.
Persons can only order certificates for themselves, their registered spouse, their children under the age of legal majority and other parties over whom they may have custody. However, parents can order birth certificates of their children at any time. If a certificate is ordered on behalf of another person, a power of attorney with two witness signatures must be submitted. Certificates are only issued in Icelandic and English.
Certificates are sent to the legal domicile of the person named in the certificate, unless otherwise specified. If a certificate is ordered online or in the service centre upon the presentation of legal identification, it may also be sent via e-mail. Legal identification must be presented when a certificate is collected at the premises of Registers Iceland. Legal identification and power of attorney must also be presented if another person than the one for whom the certificate is intended collects the certificate.
