Passports for children

Attention!
If you are applying for a passport for 18 years and older, click here

Application for a child's passport is pre-registered on ísland.is. If there are two legal guardians, both must confirm the application. To register online, you need to have an electronic ID.

The process is simple

After the registration is completed, the applicant along with the child must go to the application location within 30 days for a photo shoot. If the application has been registered and approved by both legal guardians, it is sufficient for one of the legal guardians to accompany the child. In the capital area, it is possible to schedule a time for the photo shoot.

Always bring a valid identification document, passport, Icelandic driver's license, or name certificate to the application location.

If applying at the application center, guardians must be present with the child when applying for a passport.

If another custodian does not appear at the application site, he / she must fill out Form V-901 in the presence of two witnesses who will also write their name on the document. The other custodian takes it with them to the application site.

If both guardians are present at the application site, form V-901 is filled in there.
