Birth certificate

A certificate confirming date of birth/kennitala, gender, birth place and names of parents. Registers Iceland can not issue birth certificates for individuals born overseas. In those cases it is best to contact our service desk at phone number 515 5300.

Note! If a wedding ceremony is the reason for the order, please check whether you meet the requirements for the electronic examination of marriage conditions before ordering certificates from Registers Iceland. The necessary certificates from the National Registry are included and do NOT need to be ordered separately if the application for the electronic survey of marriage conditions has already been completed.

Disclaimer

Registers Iceland now issues electronic certificates that are available in individuals’ postbox on Ísland.is. Electronic certificates are fully equivalent to paper certificates and are easy to forward as needed. The electronic certificates have an electronic signature from Registers Iceland that is very secure and trackable.
When processed the electronic certificate will be available in the postbox of the person named in the certificate. The exception being when parents or legal guardians order certificates for children or when death certificates are ordered. In those cases the certificate will be available in the postbox of the person who ordered the certificate.
