Delivery of ID cards

Attention!
The applicant will receive an email when the ID card is ready for delivery. It is open at the Registers Iceland office in Borgartún 21 from 10:00-15:00 on weekdays.

ID cards can be obtained in three ways:

  1. Collected at Hagkaup store, Skeifan 15, 108 Reykjavík. Opening hours are 24/7.
  2. Collected at Registers Iceland, Borgartún 21, 105 Reykjavík.
  3. Collected at a domestic or foreign application location.
  4. Sent by registered mail in special cases when it needs to be delivered abroad.

Note that ID cards are produced by the National Registry, so applicants should plan accordingly if they wish to collect their ID cards at an application location.

If the applicant cannot collect the ID card in person, they can authorize someone else to do so. However, a legal guardian must collect a child's passport unless they grant authorization to someone else.

Please note that if an ID card is not collected within 6 months, it will be canceled.
