Denial, limitations, etc.

Registers Iceland is authorized to refuse the issuance of a ID card as a travel document due to the following points:
  • A person does not have Icelandic citizenship.
  • The applicant is wanted by the police, an arrest warrant has been issued, applicant has been placed under a travel restriction and/or has not served sentences.
  • The consent from the guardian of a child under the age of 18 is missing.
  • The consent from the guardian for a person who has been declared incapable is missing. 
  • The applicant cannot properly identify himself, herself, themself or provide necessary information for the application.
Registers Iceland is authorized to refuse the issuance of a ID card not as a travel document due to the following points:
  • A person does not have Icelandic citizenship.
  • The consent from the guardian of a child younger than 13 is missing.
  • The applicant cannot properly identify himself, herself, themself or provide the necessary information for the application.
