Fingerprint, height and signature
Fingerprints
Fingerprints are in the processor of Icelandic ID cards. Children under the age of 12 are exempt from providing fingerprints. If it is not possible to take fingerprints from the index finger of those over the age of 12, other fingers may be used.
When applicants are fingerprinted, their rights must be safeguarded in accordance with the basic rules of the European Human Rights Convention and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, so that they maintain their dignity despite difficulties arising in the process.
Fingerprints in ID cards are protected according to international rules and standards, so they can only be used as comparison with fingerprints taken from the ID card holder during border controls and to make sure that the ID card is genuine.
Height and signature
At the age of 10, the person's height and signature appear in the ID card.
